This beautiful downloadable fine-art cross stitch design was developed from the painting The Boulevard de Clichy done by Vincent van Gogh in 1887. Boulevard de Clichy is a prominent street in Paris, Van Gogh lived there with his brother Theo at the time he created this painting. It shows the Paris boulevard at a point where he often crossed.
Also, on the right at the very edge of the painting is Rue Lepic, his brother Theo's home. This was not just any street for van Gogh. Several of his artist friends lived there, and at No. 82 was the Moulin Rouge, which since 1889 has been the number one attraction of the neighborhood. At number 6, the painter Edgar Degas lived in an apartment on the 5th floor. He also died there at the age of 83.
Spontaneous street scenes were very popular with the Impressionist artists at this time. Van Gogh created this scene with short brushstrokes and very thinly applied paint which seem to fill the painting with light. This beautiful full-coverage cross stitch design can be yours to create and add to your masterpieces.
