Art works created based on images of animals were done by means of illustrations, lithographed prints, vintage post cards, posters, woodblock print and fine art paintings. They have been an inspiration for artists from the first cave printing of bison and deer to artists of fine art paintings throughout history.
Seventeenth century art showed hunting scenes and the struggle between man and beast. Artists in the 18th century celebrated the beauty of animals in their natural habitat, and in the 19th century paintings of domestic pets and livestock were common. Artists of the 20th century explored the entire range of artistic styles in the use of animals as subject matter for their pantings, such as Franz Marcâs âAnimals in Landscapeâ and âTiger.â
