Bring one of Édouard Manet's most recognizable masterpieces to life with this The Balcony Cross Stitch Pattern. Painted in 1869, this captivating work combines portraiture, fashion, and modern urban life in a composition that remains one of the defining images of nineteenth-century French art.
Set against a dark interior, three elegantly dressed figures stand and sit upon a sunlit balcony framed by distinctive green railings and shutters. The striking contrast between light and shadow, combined with Manet's bold use of color, creates an atmosphere that is both inviting and mysterious. The painting reflects the artist's fascination with modern Parisian society while showcasing his innovative approach to composition and portraiture.
Inspired in part by the work of Spanish master Francisco Goya, The Balcony became one of Manet's most celebrated paintings. Rich details, elegant costumes, and the painting's iconic architecture make this design a rewarding project for stitchers who appreciate fine art and historical subjects.
This full-coverage cross stitch pattern faithfully captures the beauty and sophistication of Manet's original masterpiece.
Create your own stitched version of this museum-quality masterpiece and enjoy one of Manet's most enduring works of art.
The figures in this painting are friends of Manet. The woman on the left is Berthe Morisot who married Manet's brother Eugene (man in the center). The woman on the right is Fanny Claus, a violinist, and the faint figure in the background is Manet's son. Berthe Morisot was an artist herself and a member of the circle of artists who became known as the Impressionists.
This painting resides at the Musée d'Orsay in Paris.
