This advanced fine-art cross stitch design, Girl with a Pearl Earring, was developed from a 1665 painting of Dutch painter, Johannes Vermeer. Considered the "Dutch Mona Lisa," this painting is acknowledged as one of the greatest pieces of art of the Dutch Golden Age. A pearl earring is the focal point of this painting, and it is considered to be one of Vermeer's masterworks. It resides at the Mauritshuis gallery in The Hague.
