This advanced fine-art cross stitch design, The Music Lesson, was developed from a painting by Dutch painter, Johannes Vermeer who is acknowledged as one of the greatest artists of the Dutch Golden Age. Created in 1662-1665, this painting is one if Vermeer's greatest representations of Dutch culture during the 17th century and has been part of the Royal Collection of Great Britain since the reign of King George III. It resides at St. James' Palace in London. A woman is playing the virginal (a keyboard instrument) with a man listening. The woman has her back to us, but we can see a reflection of her face in the mirror on the wall.
