Also known as The Terrace at Sainte-Adresse. This advanced fine-art cross stitch design, Garden at Sainte Adresse, was developed from an 1867 painting by the well-known French artist, Claude Monet, who was regarded as the founder and leader of the Impressionist group of artists. In 1867, when Monet was 26 years of age, he spent the summer at the resort town of Sainte-Adresse on the English Channel near Le Havre (France), where he created this painting. The garden in the painting belonged to his aunt whose villa was near the great port of Le Havre, and the figures in the painting who are watching the steam ships are thought to be his father and aunt. Monet captures the brightness of sunlight as it reflects off the sea, the flowers and gravel paths. Garden at Sainte Adresse resides at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York.
