This advanced fine-art cross stitch design, The Fishermans House at Varengeville, was developed from an 1882 painting by the well-known French artist, Claude Monet who was regarded as the founder and leader of the Impressionist group of artists. Napoleon ordered small cottages be built on the French Channel coast for the custom officers who kept watch over the sea. These small cottages were then used by fishermen after the Continental Blockade. Monet eliminated black and gray from his palette, and represented natural color like a prism. This painting resides at the Museum Boijmans van Beuningen, Rotterdam Netherlands.
