In De Morgan's interpretation, the couple is suspended high above the earth, wrapped in flowing ribbons of fabric that swirl through the air like currents of wind. Boreas's great dark wings dominate the composition, while the graceful figure of Oreithyia appears caught between resistance and surrender as they soar above the rugged coastline below.
