This cross stitch design, Wheatfield with Crows, was developed from a painting done by Dutch artist Vincent van Gogh in 1890. For some time this was thought to be van Gogh's last painting prior to his suicide. However, art historians are uncertain as to which painting is actually van Gogh's last, and there are no clear historical records to support this theory. This painting is one of van Gogh's most famous works. It is a dramatic painting and is a representation of the wheat fields of Auvers-sur-Oise as seen by van Gogh from the window of his room at Saint-Rémy-de-Provence; and in van Gogh's own words, "They are endless wheatfields under a cloudy sky, and I have not hesitated to attempt to express sadness and the deepest loneliness." This painting resides at the Van Gogh Museum in Amsterdam.
