This advanced fine-art cross stitch design, Two Sisters - On the Terrace, was developed from an 1881 painting by the famed impressionist artist Pierre-Auguste Renoir. The upper terrace of the Restaurant Fournaise is the setting for this painting - the same setting used for the painting Luncheon of the Boating Party by Renoir. It is springtime and the flowering plants and vines behind the terrace rail have just come into bloom. The models in this painting were not related, and the painting was given its name by art dealer, Paul Durand-Ruel who purchased the painting from Renoir in July 1881.
