More information about the original artwork: it was completed in 1890 as a watercolor painting by artist Edward Burne-Jones. The Corporation of Birmingham commissioned Burne-Jones to paint a large and detailed painting representing the Adoration of the Magi for the Municipal Museum and Art Gallery. Burnes-Jones accepted the commission and titled the painting The Star of Bethlehem. This is a large and highly detailed watercolor painting with beautiful colors borrowed from medieval tapestry. It was the largest watercolor of the 19th century, and was first exhibited at the New Gallery, London, in the spring of 1891 before being sent to the Birmingham Museum & Art Gallery where it remains.
