This fine-art cross stitch design, The Spanish Singer, was developed from a painting done in 1860 by French artist Edouard Manet who is defined forever as one of the world's greatest artists. This painting has been at the Metropolitan Museum of Art of New York since 1949. Manet composed this painting in his studio using a model and props. It is both exotic and realistic and influenced by Spanish art. Manet was accepted at the Salon of Paris for the first time in 1861 when he exhibited this painting. Having their paintings accepted by the Salon was an important status for artists to achieve.
