Hassam's success toward the end of his career allowed him to move into a large apartment at 130 West 57th Street in New York City in 1909. This apartment had a large two-story studio which provided wonderful views of Central Park. It also provided an intimate dining room which Hassam used for his "window series," which usually included a female figure with bowls of flowers or fruit or a tea set as props. New York Winter Window was painted in 1918-19 with a pensive female model and a bowl of fruit.
