French Post-Impressionist painter, Henri Rousseau, painted Woman Walking in an Exotic Forest in 1905, and this fine-art cross stitch design was developed from that painting. Rousseau enjoyed visiting the botanical garden in Paris where the plants and zoo animals were of particular interest to him. Instead of painting the plants their actual size, he made them as big as trees, creating a fantasy world. He did not receive the real appreciation his works deserved until after his death in 1910. Woman Walking in an Exotic Forest resides at The Barnes Foundation in Merion, Pennsylvania.
