This advanced fine-art cross stitch design, Two Young Girls at the Piano, was developed from an 1892 painting by the famed impressionist artist Pierre-Auguste Renoir. The French government invited Renoir to create a painting for a new museum in Paris, the Musée du Luxembourg. Renoir chose two girls at the piano as his subject, and he gave extraordinary care to this project because of the scrutiny it would be under. Renoir refined the composition in a series of canvases; they reside at the Musée du Luxembourg, the Metropolitan Museum in New York, and two in private collections. It is an intimate and engaging scene of bourgeois domestic life.
