This beautiful downloadable fine-art cross stitch design, The Ten Largest, No. 3, Youth, Group IV, was developed from a painting done by Swedish artist Hilma af Klint in 1907. Af Klint was possibly the first purely abstract painter to produce non-objective works in the early 1900's. She had her own unique and highly spiritualist approach to painting, using vivid colors along with her amazing technique and precision. Af Klint began the "The Ten Largest" series (of which The Ten Largest, No. 3, Youth, Group IV was a part) by placing a very large piece of paper on her studio floor in Stockholm and painting with gouache and watercolor. What resulted was a suite of enormously large dazzling and beautiful paintings which she completed within a year. They are symbols of childhood to the fading shades of old age, reminding viewers of their path through life. She requested that her paintings not be shown until 20 years after her death because she believed the world was not ready, nor could it understand the significance of her visions.
