This fine-art cross stitch design was developed from the The Snake Charmer which was painted by French artist Henri Rousseau in 1907. Rousseau was a self-taught artist who began painting in his later life. The subject in the painting is a black Eve charming a snake in the Garden of Eden. The human figure, the strange vegetation and the animals were all painted with the same painstaking care. Rousseau did not leave Paris to find his inspirations as other French artists did. He found his inspiration within his imagination. This painting resides at the Musée d'Orsay, Paris, France.
