This advanced fine-art cross stitch design, The Princess and the Pea, was developed from an illustration created by French illustrator Edmund Dulac in 1911. This illustration was created for the "Princess and the Pea Fairy Tale" by Hans Christian Andersen. This is a literary fairy tale about a young woman who established her royalty through a test of her physical sensitivity. "The Princess and the Pea" was adapted to a musical production in 1959 starring Carol Burnett.
