The Flapper is a stunning advanced cross-stitch design by illustrator Frank Xavier Leyendecker. This was the cover illustration for a 1922 issue of Life Magazine. World War I spurred changing tastes among the magazine-reading public, and the Gay Nineties family-style humor was losing popularity. Leyendecker (German-born American Golden Age Illustrator) was the brother of legendary illustrator J.C. (Joseph Christian) Leyendecker.
