This advanced fine-art cross stitch design, The Ball on Shipboard, was developed from a painting created in 1874 by French artist James Tissot. Tissot painted many scenes depicting the fashionable life style in 19th-century London and Paris, and in this painting, it was a very festive occasion, as it was the annual sailing regatta off the Isle of Wight. Tissot was unsurpassed in his impeccable details of the finery worn by women. This painting is considered one of his signature paintings.
