This advanced fine-art cross stitch design, Harlequin, was developed from a painting done by French artist and Post-Impressionist painter, Paul Cézanne in 1888-1890. Cézanne concentrated on landscapes and still lifes from the 1880s to the beginning of the 1890s. He then produced a series of works depicting human figures, including the "Harlequin." This painting is devoid of any action, with the corner of the yellow curtain hinting of a stage. This painting resides at the Washington National Gallery of Art.
