This fine-art cross stitch design, Beach Scene with Boats, was developed from a painting created by American post-impressionist artist Maurice Prendergast in 1913-1915. Much of Prendergast's work was associated with leisurely scenes set on beaches and in parks. He used bold, jewel-like colors and flattened forms arranged rhythmically on the canvas. His paintings have often been described as giving a feeling of tapestry or mosaics.
