During World War I Manhattan's Fifth Avenue was draped with Liberty Loan flags promoting the purchase of savings bonds and flags of the Allies - United States, Great Britain, Brazil and Belgium. American artist Childe Hasssam painted this view looking north from Fifty-Third Street. The original painting resides at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City.
